SCRY and Obsidian for D&D
Plenty of DMs start a campaign vault in Obsidian and mean to keep it up. SCRY fills in the notes from the sessions you actually play and hands them back as markdown whenever you want them.
What Obsidian is good at
Obsidian is a notes app that keeps everything as markdown files on your own computer. It's free for personal use, works offline, and the community plugins cover a lot of what DMs want, from statblocks and initiative tracking to maps. If you like shaping your own system, few tools give you that much control.
Where vaults fall behind
A vault is only as current as the last time you sat down to write in it. After a long session that's the last thing anyone wants to do, so the notes stop around session eight and the campaign carries on without them.
What SCRY does instead
SCRY records your session on Discord and builds linked wiki pages for the people, places and plot threads that came up, each one showing the line it came from. Your players can read their own wiki without making an account.
Use them together
Export your SCRY campaign any time and you get a folder of markdown files with the wiki links intact. Drop it into Obsidian and it opens like a vault you kept up yourself.
Which one to pick
Stay with Obsidian if you enjoy keeping the notes and your vault is up to date. Try SCRY if your vault stopped a few sessions back and you'd like the notes to keep up without you.
