Where each one fits

World Anvil

World Anvil is a worldbuilding platform. You write articles from templates for characters, settlements, religions and history, then tie them together with maps and timelines.

It suits a DM who builds the setting in depth before play, or who wants to publish a world for other people to read. Session reports and secrets are there for running the campaign, and you write those too.

SCRY

SCRY records your session on Discord and builds the campaign wiki from what was said. The innkeeper you named on the spot gets a page because she came up in the game, and the page shows the line where she did.

It suits a DM whose campaign is running and whose notes keep falling behind. Your players get their own wiki with only what has been revealed.

Keep your world, add your sessions

Your setting can stay in World Anvil. Save the articles your table uses as PDFs and import them into SCRY, and your sessions sit next to them in one wiki.

There is no direct import from World Anvil, so bring across the pages you reach for during a game and leave the rest where it is.

Can I move my World Anvil world into SCRY?

There is no direct import. You can bring articles in as PDFs, and SCRY adds them to the same wiki as your sessions.

Does SCRY have maps and a timeline?

Yes. You can upload your own map images and pin places to their wiki pages, and each campaign has a timeline. World Anvil goes further on both if mapping is a big part of your prep.

How much does SCRY cost?

The free plan covers one campaign and three recorded sessions. Pro is $15 a month or $150 a year.

Does SCRY work for in-person games?

Not yet. SCRY records Discord voice, so your game needs to run in a Discord voice channel.
